Allergies - Causes and Treatment

 The highest rates of allergies are in Australia and New Zealand. One in five people have allergies. Allergies occur when a person comes in contact with substances that are harmful to the environment. These substances are known as allergens. Allergies are associated with the cause of asthma. Allergies are caused by dust mites, ticks, food and pets.

* Features;

       


Allergies occur when your immune system is exposed to foreign substances such as bee venom, pets, food. When you have an allergy your immune system produces antibodies known as specific allergens. When you are exposed to allergens, your immune system is affected by your skin, sinuses and airways. The effects of allergies vary from person to person and range from minor inflammation to anaphylaxis.


--- Food allergies can cause sneezing, itchy nose or eyes, red or swollen eyes. It can also cause tingling, swelling of the lips, tongue, face, or period.

--- Allergies caused by insect bites can cause swelling at the sting site, itching all over the body, coughing, difficulty in breathing, etc.


* Causes;

            Anything can cause allergies. These usually include harmful substances such as pollen, dust, food, animal dung, insect venom, etc. Allergies can also be caused by side effects of medications such as penicillin or penicillin-based antibiotics such as latex.


* Risk factors;

              You may have allergies if you have an illness like asthma or even if you have a family history of allergies.

House allergy exposure;

               You may have allergies if you have pets in your home. In addition to pet itching, allergies can be caused by its dust, germs.

Genetic predisposition;

                You may have allergies if your grandparents, parents or siblings have allergies. Its symptoms begin to appear in childhood.

Smoke;

                 Exposure to smoke can cause allergies. Smoke can be from cigarettes, pipes, cigars. In addition to allergies, smoke also causes damage to the lungs. People who live close to the industrial area may be allergic.

Occupational hazards;

                 Other hazardous factors increase the risk of allergies if your work uses harmful gases, chemicals and air pollutants.


  * When to see a doctor;

                    See a doctor if you have any allergy symptoms. Call a doctor if you still have allergy symptoms after taking the medicine. If the allergy improves after the epinephrine injection but when the effect of the injection stops, consult a doctor to make sure that the allergy does not recur. 211 for anaphylaxis or no emergency. Call and get medical help.


  * Treatment;

                   The way to avoid allergies is to stay away from the factors that cause them. If this is not possible, do the following treatment.

Medicine;

           Medications such as antihistamines can be taken to control allergies. Ask your doctor for medication.

Immunotherapy;

            Immunotherapy can be used to treat allergies. Injections are given for many people who prefer immunotherapy. Immunotherapy can prevent allergy symptoms from recurring.

 Epinephrine;

              If you have an allergic reaction, you can take shots until you get medical treatment. These shots prevent allergies from escalating.


  * Natural remedies;

               Natural remedies are often used to treat allergies but consult your doctor before doing so as natural remedies can often make allergy symptoms worse.

               Dry tea and flowers are used in natural remedies. Some people use oils to relieve allergies but often these oils contain ingredients that can cause allergies.


  * Prevention;

              Try to avoid triggers if you are treating allergy symptoms. E.g. If you are allergic to pollen, keep windows and doors closed when the pollen is high. If you are allergic to dust mites, dust, wash your face frequently.

                Keep a diary. Write down what activities you are doing or what you are allergic to when you eat, which can be used when you go to the doctor. Wear a medical alert bracelet that can prevent allergies
